Dangerous road conditions likely contributed to a pair of injury accidents which occurred on the New York State Thruway, within twelve hours of each other.

Newton Abbott Rescue 3, Engine 1, Scranton 7, and several chief officers responded to a reported rollover on the Eastbound I-90 at 7:19 PM on Monday the 24th. A vehicle had left the roadway, cleared the guardrail, and landed in a drainage culvert, coming to rest upside-down in eighteen inches of water.

Fortunately, high water levels resulting from warm temperatures in previous days had normalized, permitting extrication of the driver through the rear of the vehicle, with minimal hazard to rescuers.

The following morning, at 7:26 AM, a vehicle travelling Eastbound spun out, striking a guardrail and causing significant front-end damage. Hydraulic extrication was not required; the driver did receive EMS attention from Rural/Metro Medical Services.
