Newton Abbott firefighters and mutual aid companies fought a stubborn blaze overnight in the Olive Garden at the McKinley Mall, 3701 McKinley Parkway.

On initial size-up, flames were showing through the roof, compromising it and preventing an effective interior attack. Command ordered a defensive operation and multiple elevated master streams were put into place. The fire, helped by wind, burned for several hours in void spaces not easily reached. The building is a total loss.
