Newton Abbott and mutual aid companies responded late last night to a reported garage fire in the Bethford neighborhood.

Assistant chief Chad Locher arrived on location and reported heavy fire conditions in a detached garage, with nearby residences threatened by the radiant heat. Quint 6 arrived on location first, stretching a 2.5″ handline to the garage, while engine 1’s crew protected the exposures to the rear.

The garage, which contained a vehicle, was completely destroyed by the fire. Nearby residences suffered some exterior damage from the heat but were kept from igniting by the suppression effort.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by Woodlawn, Blasdell, Big Tree, Scranton, Hamburg, and Orchard Park firefighters.
