Newton Abbott and mutual aid companies were dispatched to a possible residential fire this afternoon.

The homeowners heard popping sounds in a wall near an electrical outlet, and found the wall to be hot to the touch.

Assistant chiefs Charles Minich and Kevin Burkley conducted an initial size up, finding no visible smoke or fire, and determined that the hazard was limited to the outlet. The balance of the responding units was returned to their quarters, while crews from Engine 1 and Quint 6 investigated further with thermal imaging cameras.

Power was shut off to the affected area, and the homeowner was advised to contact an electrician.
